For the villages of Casamance, rural area that extends along the drainage basin of the river of the same name, social and spiritual life is regulated by important propitiatory rites. In particular, between the months of May and July, with a periodicity of about 10 years, the so-called Bukut (or Futampaf), the initiation rite he celebrates the transition of the village adolescents to the status of adults.
