Officine Panerai, last December together with WAMI completed the construction of a water network for the supply of drinking water to 9 families in the Village of Makarongoni, in Tanzania.
Direct access to drinking water was guaranteed to 46 people, thanks to the installation of taps in their homes.
There is a counter because all families pay a monthly fee, like a utility bill (500 francs a month = 50 cents €, very low). It is used to empower users: it avoids waste and finances maintenance. The maintenance of the aqueduct is managed by the villagers, generally 5-6 people. Each tank has an accountant, a plumber who arranges the various breakages that can occur in the taps, one takes care of pumping the water twice a day into the tank, one checks the water and adds a little chlorine.
